Routine Requests for Information

Looking for a driver's copy of a collision report? You can access it directly through the
Government of Alberta's Online Collision Report System.

The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) Access and Privacy Unit processes routine requests when accessing witness statements, multi-media files (audio, video, photobooks), certificates of analysis and police reports from property offence incidents. 

Routine requests for records will be accepted if:

  • You are a named involved party in the incident or their representative (authorization to release may be required),
  • All investigations related to the file have been concluded, and
  • Court proceedings in relation to any charges or violation tickets on the file have been concluded.

Examples of property offence incidents:

  • theft / theft from auto / theft of auto
  • lost property
  • mischief (vandalism)
  • break and enter
  • motor vehicle accidents / collisions

Making a Routine Request for Information

  • Requests are processed once forms and supporting documentation are received in good order and applicable fees are paid-in-full

  • To request your own information regarding police reports from property offence incidents, witness statements or certificates of analysis, complete the Request for LPS Files Form

  • Arrange for proof of identification by showing or photocopying one (1) valid piece of government-issued photo identification
    • Examples of photo identification (this list is not exhaustive):
      • Driver’s Licence or Identification Card
      • Passport
      • Nexus Card
      • Permanent Residence Card
      • Indian/Metis Status Card

  • Submit the completed package using one (1) of the following options: 
    • Attend the front desk at the Lethbridge Police Service (135 1st Avenue South) during business hours (Monday to Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Closed weekends and statutory holidays), or 
    • Mail the package to:

  • Requests are processed once forms and supporting documentation are received in good order and applicable fees are paid-in-full

Fee Information

All fees must be paid-in-full before a request is processed.

  • Own Witness Statement - No Charge

  • "Driver's Copy" of a Collision Report - No Charge
  • Routine Request for Information - $57.75 per occurrence
    • Full Collision Report, disclosable file reports or Confirmation Letter if the file is active before the course or still under investigation

  • Production of Multimedia - $55 per media file
    • Audio (excluding witness statements)
    • Photobook
    • Video 

  • Copy of Certificate of Analysis - $20 per occurrence

  • Collision Technical Reports - Varies


Costs are listed in Canadian dollars and include taxes and processing fees, when charged. 

  • Requests made in-person:
    • Cash or debit

  • Requests made via mail:
    • Certified cheques or money orders made payable to "The City of Lethbridge"
       

Please note that personal cheques CANNOT be accepted. 

Processing Times

The processing time period for Routine Requests for Information is approximately six (6) months and is subject to change without notice.

Please be aware that, due to the volume of requests, the Access and Privacy Unit will not respond to any status requests during the processing time period.
